Plia Folding Chair

The Plia chair from 1967 is one of those designs that just... works. That three-disc hinge mechanism is pure engineering poetry—folds completely flat to just 5cm thick. Seven million sold since 1969, still in production, still looks fresh. The clear plastic seat and chrome frame combo is timeless mid-century Italian design. MoMA permanent collection. Giancarlo Piretti really nailed the intersection of form and function here.
